Iraq Railroad Flat Car

OK,
I have been driving past this flat car for a year and a half, and finally decided it was time to take some pictures.
Taji is the ex-home of ‘Chemical Ali’, and was once a very large armor canter for the Iraqi Military.
The defunct railhead may come back to life later on, but I assure you I won’t be here to see it.
I will be modelling early 1900 steam, so this is out of my lane, way out of my lane. I am certain it is made in Germany.
Beyond that, all I am capable of is sharing pictures of it which I found interesting.
If there is a specific picture anyone would like I can go back out there any time.

I may need some help on the picture sizes guys…

Don.
I would be pleased to help you but I have no idea how to re-size pics if they are not stored on my website.

Don,
Thanks for the picture. That is a pretty heavy duty, short flat.

You will find Windows image resizer here. It is free. If you have a Mac, you are on your own.

I am using a company computer and they are a bit ‘decisive’ about what is installed on them.

I found the adjustable brakes for the different tonnage interesting, but again, its not my era, so the only right thing to do was share the photos.

It is from Microsoft.........so it is safe. If that is still a problem, you can e-mail me the photos. I'll resize them and send them back. Ralph

O their way in a few Sir, and thanks. Big companies get a little tight around the gills about such things.

Just tried resizing with basic MS Paint.Use the Image tag on the task bar then Stretch/Skew.Works a treat.

I already reduced them to 30%. I’m afraid the detail will start to go away.

Here are a couple of more that have the ramp detail, etc.

Interesting and thanks for sharing…
Snap lots of pics whether your modeling it or not you won’t be sorry in the long run!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting.

Not my thing either but still quite interesting. So that red lever is for adjusting the brakes according to the load? Sure is a sturdy looking flat, I wonder what they hauled with it.

This place is a military graveyard since the gulf war. Here are some of the things in a few hundred acres of scrap metal. Ray, the lever has tonnage marks on it, and some manner of statement about the brake mechanism. Other than that, it is just a huge, very solid flat car. IN one of the pictures you can se several other tracks in the background. Here are just a few of the probable passengers for such a flat…

Here is the same pic, but hopefully in a viewable size now. Thiose of you that are military hardware types will likely recognize these as M-60 Battletanks. We Americans sold these to Iraq when they were fighting Iran.

These are T-62’s with a couple of T-72’s mixed in the crowd.

Interesting shots Don. We used several M-60 variants when I was in the NEbraska NG(they are now truckers-what I was in Nam). I liked the M-48 A5 the best though, had a 105mm main gun and the TC and loader each had a M-60 machine gun, all 3 of us had one engagement on the firing course when we were all firing at once, great fuN!

Love that armor. I drove the M48, M60 and my aluminum hot rod the M551 Sheridan with a 152mm main gun and she was nuclear capable TOW.

Stay safe over there.
