Invasive Sedum!

I’ve been fighting this stuff since I started the RR, had no idea 20 years ago how invasive it was. I try to keep it confined to a couple of areas, but it’s hard to do that. Grows good, so you have to give it credit. Not sure of the name. It’s growing extra well this year, oh joy!

I feel your pain.

Fighting many invasive species myself

Clover is really giving me fits. It pops up in plants I wish to keep.

Spreads along runners, so it’s very hard to pull :frowning:

I keep in check with Round-Up…that and the Creeping Jenny…

I have some of that, the greenhouse called it “Grisbachi” sedum. (I think that’s how its spelled). I have it in a narrow strip between a rock wall and a retaining wall. It keeps it confined so I don’t have to worry about it going everywhere.

Keep an eye out for pieces popping up elsewhere. If you step on it and a piece sticks to your show, where ever it falls of it will grow, or a bird dropping it. Nasty stuff!

He he he…I’ll keep that in mind. Look at the bright side, it looks a heck of a lot better than the dang weeds I got. I’ve been lazy lately and the weeds have a firm grasp on the open areas of the layout.

I feel your pain, Jerry. I have it growing in a rocky area. The rocks seem to confine it quite well in fairly small patches, but I do have to curb it as well. I haven’t got a huge patch like yours, though. It LOOKS good from 10’ back! I had another kind of sedum that was bigger in structure. It crawled all over everything. I KILLED IT DEAD last year. I think the one you’ve got here could be very useful and attractive if only you could contain it… I like it a lot around my pike, fwiw, and have had it for many years… goes to show you, mileage really does vary.

They call it Ice sedum or Yellow Ice around here. We have alot of area to fill in, so I’ve used it in many places, and use roundup to kill it away from track, and have to pull it away from other groundcover areas.

I love the stuff. It gives my layout a nice backwoods touch and you cant kill it.

And I can’t seem to get it started here…so mebbe you should move to WV…

The good news is that it can take heavy foot-traffic, dog traffic, etc., and I can get it to grow places where nothing else will grow. I noticed today that can be overtaken by vinca. And somehow, dandelions must companion with it, because I never seem to get them all out of it.

I have the perfect spot for some of this on my layout, will be looking into what my local nurseries have early fall.

ha! Ha! All you have to do is find some in someone’s yard. Take a couple of those leaves and wherever you drop them you’ll be overrun with the stuff in a couple of months!!!
