Large Scale Central

Introduction

Hello,
I’m Bill. I signed on a month ago and have been browsing the forums. I’m working on models in 1:24 scale, building cars of wood frames and bodies and whatever
materials and details I find in exact scale or close. My favorite prototypes are D&RGW narrow gauge and Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes 2 foot gauge. I have some frames started for a D&RGW gondola, pipe gondola, and 2 6700 series idler flats. I found 1:24 scale trucks for these made by Precision Scale that are brass kits with nickle
silver wheels and axles (the wheels are cast with fin detail on back and casting details on front consisting of the real caster name and location of the prototypes).
I’ll be posting photos and text of my work.

Have a good one.

Bill

Hi Bill, welcome aboard. As you have discovered, we like photos.

Pull up a chair, grab a cup of joe, the 10:27 should be along sometime. Please join the conversation, we like new ideas.

Great to have you with us, Bill. Welcome!

Here are photos of a Hartford D&RGW truck that I painted, rusted, and assembled.

These are 1:20.3. I bought 3 Hartford short kits to see what parts could be used for 1:24. Short kits have all parts except wood and wire to build a certain car and come with drawings, instructions, and a parts list which includes parts needed which are not supplied. Have a good one. Bill

Welcome aboard Bill. Good to see you spout off with an intro, we’d like to see more joining members do it.

Welcome aboard, Bill! Glad to see another 1/24th modeler here! I too have wondered about the possibility of using Hartford components for 1/24th models, and I’m interested in hearing how they worked out for you.

Thanks everyone.

Ray-I have a standard gauge caboose that I’m building for a friend and I have used the small queenposts, K brake cylinder, and truss rods so far on that build.
I obviously won’t use the Hartford trucks. I just was in the mood to assemble those to see how they would come out. Surprised myself. I made 2 errors on those
trucks. One was I mistakenly used semi-gloss paint and second was some of the holes I drilled and tapped for 2-56 hexhead screws ended up a little crooked.

Have a good one.

Bill

welcome aboard, Bill…

Welcome Aboard… You’ll fit in well with this crowd, This site seems to be the magnet for the more laid back Doers of LS. We’re not afraid of a razor saw, let’s see if this will work or not, and just a “do it” attitude group.

Bob cracks a tough whip now and then, to let us know who’s really the conductor on this runaway. Large pool of great minds here, just ask a question, and you will get answers, and help.

Dave
