Interview: GREGOR LE CLAIRE

Hermann Schöntag: “LGB can undoubtey still be rescued”

The owner and, for the time being, unsuccessful saviour of the model railway producer in an interview regarding the causes and the consequences of the crisis.

One is still struggling for a future for the model railway producer Lehmann-Gross-Bahn (LGB) - thus far without a result. Hermann Schöntag, still the owner of LGB and simultaneously the failed “saviour” in an interview regarding the chances of the enterprise and the question how it could come to this situation.

Gregor Le Claire: Mr, Schöntag, you started LGB at the beginning of the year out of an insolvency, now another insolvency is looming. Many see in you the culprit…

Hermann Schöntag: Let’s face it: in December, when the future of LGB hung in the balance, there were two alternatives - dispersal or continuation and reinforcement of Nürnberg as the production location. I wanted the latter. If I wouldn’t have tried, there wouldn’t be LGB as an enterprise in Franconia today.

GLC: And yet exactly the same scenario is unfolding now. How could that happen, after the clamour around LGB finally died down?

HSch: That’s correct, unfortunately my rescue attempt failed for lack of co-investors. At that time I had commitments from several partners, who in the end hung me out to dry. For that reason I’m now short of money.

GLC: Is LGB still salvageable?

HSch: Without a doubt “YES”! All it takes is an investor who is willing to pay the 3.7 million Euro and is willing to invest another 2.5 to 3 million Euro in outstanding wages, bills and start-up costs to resume production. The GmbH has no debts with the banks, only outstanding liabilities to myself. But those could be discussed.

GLC: In case of a rescue: could you envision a role for yourself at LGB?

HSch: If I could still be of help, I would gladly assist. However should a rescue without my participation mean the preservation of the jobs, that would be OK, too.

GLC: When can the employees expect their wages?

HSch: If an invetor can be found - that is my firm believe - dann immediately afterwards. Should on the other hand a dispersal be the result then the insolvency bridging payments would be applicable. Even if that, in view of the lost jobs, would be small consolation.

GLC: Can you appreciate the resentment which is voiced by some of the employees?

HSch: Yes, certainly. I can only say that I am very sorry that things turned out this way. Everyone should also consider that I had a real commitment in this matter, without gaining an advantage from it. On the contrary: If things go wrong I stand to loose all the money I invested in LGB.

Comment: Hmmmm, sure would be interesting to find out who hung him out to dry!

…waiting with foul smelling breath…My life will be made or broken by this next segment of the LGB Saga…!!!

Fred,

I doubt that!  But nice to see you’re out of hibernation; we saw two of your fellow hibernators this morning, only two meters from where we were standing. The dogs didn’t check up that high and the marmots evidently figured as much.

Anyway, it is interesting to note that the questions get a bit more to the point. Can hardly wait to read what GLC digs up next.

Does that mean GLC now knows which questions to ask, and of whom to ask them?

It would probably help if GLC talked to someone who really had a impact on the future of LGB.

Just who would that be Jack?

Yes Jack,

Who would that be??

Or would that mean Gregor Le Claire should get himself some “more reliable sources”? He seems to talk with Goede on a regular basis, can’t get any closer to the action than that, can you?

Haven’t heard anything from Deutsche Bank yet, have you? Neither have I, but I’m sure they’re busy with more important matters.

Actually yes! But it was passed through one of my sources. “Deutsche Bank said they received a lot of e-mails!”

Yes, from what I hear Deutsche Bank receives a lot of emails every day. My relatives tell me that the email volume at banks is astonishing!

GOOD ONE!! My funny bone is still tingling.
