Large Scale Central

Intermodal

On the way to the IPC World Cup I caught up to a CN Intermodal. On a straight stretch and right beside the TransCanadaHighway was a pretty good place for some video shooting.

More of similar action planned as soon as the weather and my health cooperates.

'S a matta wid yer health, HJ?

Bad case of the flu, started out being achy from the tips of my hair to the tips of my toes and went downhill from there. Still coughing, hacking and snorting, but so what ā€¦ itā€™s only been ten+ days and counting. GRRRRRRR!

Hanging around with too many people who cough, hack and snort will do that!

You need a dose of warm weather. I know just the place!

Thatā€™s the first time Iā€™ve ever seen a stack train with smaller containers sitting on top of larger ones - and there were quite a few of them, too. I was under the illusion that that rarely, if ever, occurred. If anyoneā€™s more conversant with stack trains than I am, Iā€™d appreciate feedback on how the decision to stack a car is arrived at.

Didnā€™t see any 20-footers, either - all big stuff.

Long SOB!
Lots of ā€œflatā€ tires, too.
Ours down here on the BNSF are usually traveling about 60mph out near me.

Dave,

I donā€™t know if the hot climate would do any good.

If I counted correctly there were 84 cars on that Intermodal. Donā€™t know how many feet that would come to, but I know that CN runs up to 10000ā€™ trains if the track profile lends itself to it.

And they have a tendency to overdo it even when they run with distributed power; had their hands slapped a few times by the TSB on account of the resulting derailments. BTW a lot of the TSB accident reports can be looked up and read in full on the Net, makes for interesting reading.

There were quite a few refrigerated units on that train, too.
