Interesting product

Some of you might already know about this, but it’s new to me. I’ve been working on an old Lionel Atlantic–trying to make a good runner out of it. The atlantic has solid plastic driver wheels with molded spokes. I decided to try to bring up the spokes on the wheels a little, and at the local hardware store I noticed a tube of this stuff–"rub’n buff silver wax

So I applied a TINY amount to my finger, and ran it over the raised spokes:

There’s an unaltered Atlantic wheel on the right for comparison. It seems pretty good. Just a TINY mount on the finger and rubbed across the spokes. It looks like metal and it’s dead easy. I also put “neolube” on the siderods and valve gear, to get rid of the plastic chrome look, and I got a little sloppy with the neo lube. But this silver wax seems like it might be a nice way to add highlights

You can apply it with a brush also.

What’s the diameter of the Atlantic’s wheels?

2.65 inches, jerry

Mike, you might try rubbing graphite on using a “Q-Tip.” It looks good on the smoke box, too.

Mike that looks great. I found it on line but can’t figure out what color you used please give e product #
thanks
Mike

Mike,
That’s a good product. Incase you didn’t know it comes in a variety of metalic shades and antique white. Nice looking outcome not over done.

Mike I used this:

http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/4mileantiques/the-1275/RUB’N-BUFF--METALLIC/Detail

Rub’n buff metallic silver leaf. Comes in a small tube. My local hardware store had it

Steve I’ll try the q-tip and graphite deal

Excellent effect! My mom used those paints a lot to detail antique tables when I was a kid. I forgot all about them. I wonder if I still have any tubes left in my paint box…

Jon.

Thanks Mike, the Pewter color is pretty good to use.
