Interesting Loco Discovery

Short video about unearthing an historic locomotive.

What a great story. It’s crazy to think that over a few generations the engine was lost to time. At some point the track must have been pulled up. Didn’t anyone think to go and see what was in the shed at the end of the track?
Those little engines with their cute names would make for an interesting short model RR.

Not sure the identification is correct?

The disk that the connecting rod is attached to would suggest a cross shaft in front of the second axle - suggesting it is one of New Zealand’s home grown geared locomotives from someone like AG Price, Dispatch or the like: [New Zealand Geared Locomotives](javascript:void(0)

It is indeed Skunk. The intermediate shaft was added around 1907 according to this page.

Happy to say I stand corrected - and to discover that the remains are to be preserved for the future instead of being reburied.
