If you have truck-mounted couplers, when you arrive at your buddy’s place, take one of his cars and one of your own.
Swap one truck on each car.
Presto! Two transition cars, and no fuss. 
You’d have to use the same brand of cars/trucks. Screws and holes are different for each brand. (for the most part)
