Installing new pond

My old pond was nothing more than a shallow murky mess. I originally bought a piece of pre cut pond plastic and it was to small (hindsight). I didn’t know that making a pond to shallow would make it grow algae like it did. Plus i did a poor job of the layout. Basicly i hated it. I neglected it for a year hoping it would just go away. So the other day wandering through home depot i saw the preformed ponds were on sale. I bought the biggest one they had, 150 gallons, for $50. I of course forgot to take a before picture but here’s the work done so far…

That was after taking out the liner. Luckily after the oHIo clay there is sand.

The pond in and filling. No, I’m not peeing in it that’s a frog fountain I had going. Really.

The water fall in and working. Some rock work being done.

Closer look at the water fall. I’m not a fan of the black plastic showing, but I think I did ok so far. I tried to make the falls look somewhat natural instead of a pile of rocks. More work to come. Terry

Nice work Terry. Will the train go over the pond or around it?

I like the waterfall, well done.

That is a nice looking waterfall.

Cool! I need to get my rear in gear with a water feature myself.

Thanks for the compliments! The train will go over the back side of the water. Right now I just have a 2x6 over the area. My friend bob makes really nice truss bridges and he said he’d make me one. So, the 2x6 will do for now.

Looks great!

Nice pond Terry.
I had put one in in the early summer.I have goldfish in mine and they tripled in size so far this year.
I still think you are peeing, You da man I can’t go near that far. Anything to kill the algae.

I like it Terry. I dont believe you about the frog. I see it in only one picture. But, hey its your pond, means you can stay outside running trains instead of taking a break, more power to ya.

As for the black plastic, my plan is to put flat rocks along the lip and let them hang over just a little bit to hide the plastic.

To help with the algae, get some barley pellets and put them in a small perforated bag. (I used a bag you throw into the washing machine for your delicates) Hang it over the edge of the pond, so they float within 3-4 inches from the surface. The barley breaking down mixes with the oxygen in the water to prevent algae growth. You will have to replentish your bag every once in a while.
