I have a couple of LGB little diesels a 0-4-0 (D&RGW 50) and a 0-6-0 with same bonnet and cab.
I would like to use a couple of ESU XL boards, (V3.2 which area little smaller but not a lot), that I have to DCC and sound it up.
Has anyone done an installation in this loco as there is not much room in there for the board and/or a decent speaker without filling up the cab, as far as I can see…
Would love some input…
I know that I could use a smaller board like a loksound but it is just that I have the XL boards around already…
I just did mine with a Zimo MX695KV and a visation FRS5 speaker. The board is very close to the same size and the speaker I vented thru the grill. plenty of room and sounds great.
I have done 7 of the 20630 type D&RGW diesels with the Zimo MX690 and 695 decoders.
I remove the front grill and dremel out the grid but leave the solid posts.
I then glue a piece of gold Xmas ribbon to the back of the grill.
Next I install a small square speaker on the back of the grill. Trainli has a perfect sized speaker for this but it is not a Visiton.
Fits better than the FRS5, but the FRS5 is a better speaker but needs the tabs bent in order to fit and at an angle at that.
The square one fits on the back of the grill perfectly and almost needs no glue!!
I also install the LGB smoke unit in the stack.
On one I added a servo for the uncoupling feature of the decoder.
