Inspection run on the Bluestone Southern

With Columbus Day being an “Official Holiday” in Illinois, celebration was in order. Officials of the Kaskaskia Valley Railway took a ride on the new foreign road to the south, “The Bluestone Southern” owned and operated by Andy (AndyC) and Jane Clarke. The Presidential Train was made ready at the town of Bluestone.

As the KVRwy president takes her train out on the line keep your eye on the blue tarp in the back ground, it really shows the vastness of this railroad.

The “Inspection Special” runs over the newest trackage admiring the retaining walls and erosion control.

Here are some more pictures of Jan running along the line. Trackage is in good shape, though some track work was needed on the freshly layed ballast and from results of reoccurring washouts.

I felt the blue tarp at the neighbors really gives the perspective of distance. The “Inspection Special” eases back into the station at Bluestone and all involved were treated to a great meal in celebration of that crazy Italian that used Spanish money to open the “New World”.

Hmm. Maybe a visit to Bluestone Southern might be in order the day before, or after the KVRY ops session?

Heheheheh I’m bringing a largish Shay to test his clearances!!!

Ric, thank you, I’m humbled… Nice pics and narrative…

Tom, anytime, just let me know…

Brian, thank you…

Bart, I think the width clearances on the bridges is 7 inches… Height, I don’t think would be a problem… The bridge in the 5th picture of Ric’s first thread is the limiting factor, 7 inches width clearance…

Wow, that’s going to be a nice layout when it’s done. Looking good already.

Funny how most people would just see piles of dirt, we see “Right Of Way”

Andy thats a mighty layout, looking good!

There were piles of dirt? Where?

You and I would refer to them as "Hills" and "Canyons" ;)

OH, those. Gotcha!

I got the land, I just need a dozer to clear the trees offa it. Renting a chainsaw in a couple weeks to start thinning…
