Large Scale Central

[Insert Stephen King Movie name Here] 🎦

This must be quite frightening and surreal at the same time.

The BBC describes the sound.

‘It begins with the rustling of leaves, sinister squeak of hinges and the creak of nearby trees . Then comes a deafening rumble like an approaching freight train…”

And what if you’re on a freight train…

…and you’ve been stopped for a while, waiting on a red signal.

And look up…

…to see it slowly coming at you…

…and you can’t go anywhere…

These guys seemed quite calm. Just another day as an engineer Craig @ctown2 ?

I think I would have radioed premission to move ahead , or back a ways , just to get the locomotive out of the direct path. Was told long ago , if the tornado isnt moving to one side or the other , you are in the direct path!

When the dispatcher says to stop, we stop.

When the dispatch says go, we go.

High wind warnings usually stop every train until the winds die down, so it might not have been an option to move anywhere else.

More important question, how many rules got violated and can we blame the train crew? The cell phone recording on a train while even stopped (but on duty) is a big no no. I’m sure the investigation letter is already in the mail.

Knowing the little I know about the RR, I wouldn’t doubt you are right.Nice video of what happened , glad you’re not hurt , 60 off no pay!

Thanks Bill. Holy cow…

Kinda’ makes me think of that old folk song, “Blowin’ in the Wind.”
