Large Scale Central

In-ko-pah RR: The Dos Manos Depot

If you call that a “lengthy hiatus” what should I call my lapses? Hibernation?

I don’t think you’re far off on the coloring of the sandstone. I’m seeing a little bit of grey in the original which you’re missing. The cool grey would set off all the warms and I think that would nail it.

Gee Ray,

About time you got back to work, I was beginning to have withdrawals. Glad your feeling better, and glad your back to modeling.

Stay tough brother.

Ray

I’m assuming that this white wood work is styrene… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Boy Oh Boy I don’t know how you do it … But … Keep it up! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Sean,

For some people artistry is like an incurable affliction and I think Ray has a severe case. I am glad he does. Just about the time I think I am super modeler I look at Rays stuff and realize I am in preschool still.

I agree keep it up.

Wow Ray, Just beautiful.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Atta Boy!

I’m glad you’ve found your inner peace again. we all ‘see’ it.

Well, after a lengthy hiatus to deal with family issues, I’m finally starting to get back into modeling and have made some more progress on the depot…

To paraphrase a phrase, “She looks good, she looks fine; I know she’s yours, don’t wanna make her mine!”(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Ray, terrif, as usual. What are the curtains made of? Or how did you make 'em? They look very realistic.

well, now we have the proof.

Ray’s models are indistinguishable from the originals.

I haven’t made any curtains for this building yet. The pic with curtains in the window, is of a real depot in Ely, NV.

Thanks. Yes, that’s styrene. I scribed a bit of wood grain into each strip prior to assembly. Painted it with white primer, then a couple thin coats of “vanilla” (off-white) paint, brushed on. Weathering was created by lightly dry-brushing on some light, grayish brown paint using an old, ratty brush, then touched it up a bit with a fine-point brush.

I used this same technique on the doors and windows (not shown yet).

Ray,

Nothing short of amazing!

Well, after a lengthy hiatus I’m finally getting back to work on this project. I’ve started painting the large stone blocks around the base of the structure. I’m trying to replicate the look of banded sandstone. Here’s how it looks so far:

Good to see you “back” Ray!

Greg

Great job Ray , like Greg said " glad to see you back."

Here I thought you had finished it and I missed it. Looks terrific!..(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

We’re Not Worthy

Nice!

Looks super Ray.

Chuck

Good stuff, Ray. I’d still like to see some grey to complement all that warmth. More prominent grey in the “mortar” might do the trick, like in your prototype picture. Just my two cents.
