LOL! Actually the door “opens” inward, so if it had hinges they would be on the other side.
Outstanding project Ray, I have loved following your progress.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Rick.
Thanks Rick!
Ray, That is amazing! Great job;)
Just amazing Ray!!!
I can smell the solder rosin and the hot Bakelite… Maybe some ozone too!
I hate to say it but what really got me was the thermometer next to the door!
You sure you want to put this out side?
The next time you’re looking for the definition of “obsessed,” think Dunakin. I mean, flourescent lights?
Here are some shots of the building in place on the layout. Note the worn, old sign on the foundation next to the stairs. I painted that mostly by hand, which was a pain. It wasn’t very sharp either but didn’t need to be. Then I roughed it up with sandpaper:
Here it is shortly after sunset…
Imagine how great this scene will look when all the buildings have interiors and lights:
Enjoy!
Truly amazing work, Ray. Very well done. Hard to tell it’s a model.
Everyone has said it so well. Excellent work Ray
WOW! May I suggest a railing? Safety first.
Simply unbelievable!!
Thanks!
Yes, I will be putting in a railing.
That is awesome, Ray how long on average do your outdoor signs and that stuff last? Do you have any issues with them after time?
Tom H
So far the vinyl signs are holding up really well. I’ve only had to replace one – I used to set up a board in front of some buildings whenever we had a storm, to keep spatter off them, but it was redirecting hail directly onto that one sign and actually wore the ink off it.
Ray, there are not enough expletives to describe your craftsmanship.

The bottom picture above shows a broken out corner of a step, right where a handrail post ‘might have been’. I thought that was the intent. Either way, GREAT MODELING!!.
At the risk of boring everyone, here’s another shot of the town… The green stuff is moss or algae, brought on by the shady and relatively damp conditions on the layout at this time of year…
Boring everyone??? Boring everyone??? Ray, you must be kidding. I am totally fascinated by your modeling, and I’m sure others are too. The details are simply amazing. The fluorescent lights are like icing on the cake. Contrary to what others said, the electric soldering iron doesn’t look too modern; my dad had them in the 1940s. And aerosol cans came in about then too, according to my Google search results.
I’m eager to see the barber shop. I know it will be outstanding also.
Bill
PS You’re pretty dang good with a camera, too.
The Algae in the street gutter is Mother Nature’s way of complimenting your truly beautiful works of art. Very impressive.
Doc Tom
What a town!
with all the excecise they would get just walking up the street, people will be pretty strong and healthy! I hope it doesn’t snow, life would come to a hault.
Sorry, it all looks so real I can hardly think of it in terms of scale!

If I didn’t follow this build thread I would think this wasn’t a model…
Is it real or just Ray’s world?
