Large Scale Central

I'm mad as hell and trying to find a solution

Having setup with on of the largest modular groups at the Show for four years before moving out of the area, I also partook of ALL the hours of the show.

If I was running the show, I would talk to people and offer the idea of Displays till 6pm, sales hall till 7pm. It only took NHGRS about 2-2.5hours to tear down Big Green, so I can’t believe it took the dealers much longer than that. Ya, that means some people may be at the hall til 10, but they can get a good nights sleep and then truck home sunday… thoughts?

What I would LIKE to do is come down Friday night after work and attend all day Saturday and return home Sunday. Following the reports for past years, on 3 various forums, Saturdays seem to be not worthwhile going to since they cut the hours back? I’m still on the fence on this trip. I may go by myself. Anyone in W NY want to car pool? I’ve got a friend in Macungie PA that wants to get into Large Scale trains. He desperately needs track. I may drive down to his place Thursday night attend Friday back to his place Sat evening and home on Saturday night or Sunday am? Still gotta run that plan past the CFO though. Not as close as staying in a hotel in York BUT better than paying hotel prices and at least I may get to go right?

Having worked retail Allen, and worked behind the counter and at shows it truly irked me to see the Lionel & tin plate dealers un-packing and repacking the same pieces over and over again, raising prices but never selling. Sometimes sitting at a show is mindnumbing. Especially when your across the aisle from a guy who has set up and TV/VCR combo to play Thomas repeatedly. Or the “I love Toy Trains” video. shudder…I do not miss that. I worked for a store that took merchandise that was a year or older to shows and cleared it out. At that time most folks came to that store after the show anyway and bought the “new” things they wanted but could not find at any better prices. To teh point that the shows were not worth the hassle for the store.
