Large Scale Central

I'm back

Hey there,

I know I haven’t been on here in a while, but I’m back and going pretty strong right now. I have installed my first official garden railroad, and working on the mainlines in the back yard.

Will add more later, going to a friends layout this morning and bbq tonight.

Michael

Welcome back Micheal !

Glad to see you back Micheal, I thought we might have lost one our central Arkansas people.

No, just been busy with work (new job responsibilities when the company split), helping a friend rebuild his outdoor layout, and working on my own layout. I finally got a layout, albeit it a small one in the front #1 garden...now I am going to start working on the backyard layout, with the intent of connecting the two.

Bernie? What part of NLR are you in? We were in Maumelle today visiting a friends layout, quite impressive, with some LGB, MTH, and Aristocraft products. Had four trains going at once…it was very cool.

Send me an email Bernie, would like to talk about a local GR club, if you’re not presently a member of one, and if you are, maybe you can fill me in on details about it?

An old familiar monicker. Welcome back!!

Thanks Richard.

It’s been a fun filled and hectic end of last year and start to this year, but lots has gone on.

I’ve spent the last four months helping a friend and my Large Scale mentor rebuild his outdoor layout that was in a bit of disrepair. Now he can run anything he owns outside without any fear of falling or leaning off. I rebuilt the sub structure with 4x4 posts cemented in the soil, and composite decking over 2x4 stringers. A little overkill, but it’s flat, level, and has a double mainline of stainless steel AC track that spans about 400+ feet.

I was also able to get a front yard mini line, my “shortline” railroad I dubbed the Redmond and Rixey. It’s about 62 feet of ground level track in crushed granite ballast, with the short AC turnouts, two of them, for sidings. I can run my ten wheelers and some short freight cars on it, and I’m going to block the sidings and one piece of the oval to run multiple trains.

I’ve also been planning my backyard layout, with the future plan of connecting the front layout to the back. The back layout will have a footprint of about 65’ x 25’, and will encompass the north side of my back yard front to back, with a six-eight track freight/switching yard between the back layout and the connecting main to the shortline out front.

Oh, forgot to mention, I’m running Bachmann, Aristocraft, and LGB engines, and Bachmann and USA rolling stock so far.
