If Dave Taylor doesn't....

Yes I was in / on the 315 for that whole trip. Fellow Crew member Dave Hibil, and Yours truly shared the shovel duty all day. You can spot me here and there on both videos, as I ware the black arm gauntlets on my sleeves. On the #2 video, Look for me at 1:30 on the “Crew” photo, i’m on the right side, and the first back in the cab at 1:36, Also at 9:17 there is my arm sticking out.

Note: One of the boxcars brakes would lock up with a small set, and wouldn’t release. We fought with that cars brakes all day, and finally they “cut it out” of the brake lines and we got along good. Also, the boxcars were loaded full of “Storage Junk” and weren’t empty. Dragging a car along with it’s brakes locked down hard up hill is a lot of work.

Dave I am sure dragging that car along was hard work. Did dragging that car put flat spots on its wheels?

The wheels didn’t “Lock UP” and not roll… The brakes were set hard, and started to get really hot! After a bit of pulling along they would start to release, and roll regularly, until we hit the brakes again, and BAM… A hard set, with only a 5lb reduction on the line. Pull hard, get along a bit, get hot and then full release.

In the video it looks like 315 just can’t get started under the load, but the brakes were set is why. The Brakeman had a lousy day, until he cut that car out.

Mundayze are like that.
