Ideas for winter project?

I have an old LGB Stainz motor block someone gave to me. It only has one side rode on each side. I want to turn this into something but not too 100%sure. I have a few ideas but want to see if anyon might have some ideas of what to turn it into without costing a fortune. Let me hear some ideas and include pictures if you have any. Mik Im sure you have plenty of ideas and pictures. I really like the Gypsy Falk engine but not sure how hard it would be to do the side rods ect…

Mik I love that oregon pony. That just made number one so far. You think I could get away with wheel base on my block?

That big old block would work better on a Critter of some kind.

So it will have larger wheels... You can fudge things around any old way you want... then make up long winded a backstory about how and why it was built by the shop, or even a local blacksmith...

And nobody has to like it but you.

Very interesting stuff…tks.

My Stomper based "Mule’s Relief " was based on the Oregon Pony. Its a fun bash. I’ve already started a “winter project”, more on that later.

I knew you would. When I saw the picture I immediately thought it would make a perfect KMRR engine.

Mik I found the article the Oregon Pony was in. After looking at it I might be able to work something out. I wonder how hard it would be to fit spoked wheels on that? Where to get some? I guess I can always add my own little thing to it worst case. Maybe even make spokes like Tom did on his rail car. Overall it should not be hard to do other then hiding the large block.

Jon I thought the same, perfect for the KMRR.

Shawn,
the block is a typical old LGB drive block with 38mm wheels. Spoked wheels from the LGB #2017 series locomotives are a direct swap. Simply unscrew the centre screw and remove (watch out for the carbon brush power pickup and spring behind each wheel).

Bachmann Annie...cut the fake plastic counterweights out.
