Ice Blocks

If you know how I can make model ice blocks for reefers please let me in on your secret.
I understand that there was something on this in GR Apr 2007, but I have not seen this issue.
Around the Littleton Yards the meat beginneth to stink and the lettuce to go East of Eden, so any help will be much appreciated.
In reality, my winter project this year is an Icehouse for the reefers at the yards and I want to have one or two ice carts on the platform with a couple of workers handling some blocks. Help!!!

John,

You can cut them from clear acrylic and then use a torch to smooth the sides…

Or, you can buy them

Ozark miniatures has them.

Many hobby shops such as Micheals and Moores here in the states sell a 2 part CLEAR polyurethane(?) for embedding coins, bugs and the like into paperweights. They also sell molds for pouring into. Forms cleat transparent blocks.

Wish you guys hadn’t sent this snow to Rochester.

Micheal’s and Hobby Lobby also sell clear acrylic ice cubes as Christmas decorations. Check the mini-tree and decoration isle.

I was thinking the same thing Boomer

I’ve never seen 1" thick acrylic, Bruce. Maybe it’s another one of those things where you have to say, “only in America…” We have to say that a lot more often than you may think, which is one big reason why I enjoy visiting the 'States. I like the torch idea & I prefer to make rather than buy stuff! But there is a Michael’s around here, about 40-50 minutes away - I’ll check that out B4Xmas and prolly have to pay their price, yuck…

All your suggestions are much appreciated. Nothing, I guess, on that GR item…

Wait a minute! You’re up in the frozen North. Can’t you just make real teeny ice cubes until they melt?

No pun intended but I’m pretty sure I have that GR issue on the rack at my upstairs Jon library.

Something tells me it is in the issue with the Rooster Creek RR on the front

I think Andy got some blocks for his Penguin car from somewhere…acrylic blocks I think…

I got the Square Clear cube blocks at a Store in a strip mall on Rte 30, in York, PA, A C Moore, I think it was… I was directed there by a dealer at the York show, that had some displayed on her table…

It was a few years ago

It Hurts my feelings that you didn’t ask your son where to get them first

Interesting links. I followed them all, had already read the very informative Wiki article. Amazing that we shipped ice around the world!

The commercially available stuff from LarryG and Ozark looks more or less ok, but shipping to Canada makes the price per cube really insane, unless I bought a whole bunch of other stuff at the same time. I’ve got enough stuff already.

I only need a half-dozen. Offlist, Lou Luczu, in N.J. just offered to pick some up for me at Michael’s. God love him. No rush for the ice. We’ll meet up at ECLSTS in March, which I’m looking forward to again. That’s a happy ending.

Cheers everyone.

Cheers everyone.

Unless you shipped some to the Eskimos, you really didn’t do anything “amazing.”
