This week I was able to finish the mods to the tail and the cab, and get a coat of flat black applied. Tomorrow, I’ll fill and sand where needed, and give it another coat of black. Tuesday is supposed to be okay for painting, so hopefully everything will be blue by next weekend.

Shane, so far it is stunning!
Since you already have the blue, black, red and white going on just thinking ahead with possibly saving you time and money if you chose one of these paint schemes.
Thanks Eric.
Rooster, I thought for sure that you’d have one of those on your workbench already to haul those fancy new cars you’re working on.
More parts turning blue today.

There was a bit of a setback this week after someone tagged the locomotive ( Rooster
), but once that was dealt with, I think good progress was made.
Main markings were painted, and rear side venting is now in place.
It’s still in gloss paint, but will get flat coat soon.
Reflective stripes might be next.

Comparison shot.
I wish I could weather like what you’re doing Shane.
Bill, a lot of it is done with a flat white wash, to fade the paint, and a flat black to stain and bring out the details. If you go too heavy, just have a napkin to soak it up and start over. Brush in the same direction water runs. I use a small brush to flood the door edges with black. It has to be flat when you do that so that it stays even and doesn’t just pool at the bottom.
One thing you have to be careful of is not to get bubbles. normally you can avoid them by using multiple thin coats.
Dry brushing with some rust colour at the end also helps the edges of hinges and panels to show.
Heavier dirty areas, like around the stack are dry brushed with flat black and brown.
Find a cheap car, and just practice on it and see what works for you.

WOW! Just beautiful!
Thanks Dan.
This week I’ve been painting a lot of the small details, and have all the windows back in place. Fuel tank work is ongoing. It has it’s initial coat of paint, and will need a little more filling and sanding before the smaller details are applied. I did get the side fuel gauges installed.
This week I’m hoping to start work on the trucks.
Shane
Good Lord, you need to get out of the house every so often Shane!
