Yes indeedy.
For real.
Some time in late December, a person or persons unknown somehow got hold of my debit card info and got into our bank account and Visa for something over $3,000 in three days of New Years joy. Fortunately, bank security detected an unusual pattern of transactions and froze the card early Tuesday, as I found out when I went to get some lunch money at the ATM and was refused access. Fraud reports have been filed at the bank, so I hope we’ll get the money back eventually. Have to get new debit and credit cards, of course.
Sorta puts another crimp in the train budget
(Wife: “Is that all you think about?”
(Me: “No.”
(Wife: “Forget it, buster.”
(Me: Sigh.)
Have visions of seeing the perpetrator flogged around the fleet, but no doubt he/she/it/they is/are an unfortunate victim of white male domination and Western society, and to be pitied rather than condemned.
Oh dear, I do sound grumpy.
Perhaps if he can’t be flogged around the fleet, we can arrange a keel-hauling. The thought of attaching a one inch hauser to his feet and another to his shoulders, and then passing one of them under the keel and back the the main deck, tossing him into the drink and then using the him to clean the barnicles off the ship’s bottom is very satisfying.
Of course, rowing him to each ship in the fleet for the application of twelve lashes has a certain appeal, too.
More like 3 months of hell with the bank getting everything straightened out while the a**hole goes free…nobody will even bother to look for him. Been there got the pain in the butt to go with it. It’s a real sick feeling when the bank calls and tells you how many thousands of dollars your account is overdrawn… And doubly worse if it’s your business account.
Yep…but if ya don;t have any money in the first place…ya don;t have to worry bout such things…I get robbed every payday! heheheheheheh
Had that happen to me when we were out in Oregon visiting my son. We had just gotten back to Seattle after a bus tour of Mt. St. Helens and my Visa card was refused at the parking garage. Didn’t think much of it at the time, just used another card. Found out later when I got home and checked my Visa account that it had about $600 worth of purchases that I didn’t make. Fortuntely my credit union had froze the account so nothing more was put on it. Still had to make out a police report and fill out all kinds of paperwork. It was eventually removed, but what a PITA!!
In my case, I don’t think Identity Theft would be a big problem. Who would want it?

Hey Chris, What a bummer! At least you have reason to sound grumpy. Tell your wife to give you a break: “It’s hard enough already!”
Warren Mumpower said:I got the feeling that the bank is quite familiar with this sort of thing. When I was filing my complaint, the customer at the next teller was reporting much the same sort of theft. They had a good supply of claim forms to hand, which sorta tells you it's a regular occurrence. The teller told me straight that it'll take weeks before we see any money back ... Trouble is, it's so easy to get comfortable with using these cards. I rarely carry much cash, if any.

I know how you feel., Chris.
I thought I had lost my wallet, just befoe Christmas, and cancelled all my credit cards.......just got my last replacement card today......lucky, I didn't actually loose the wallet.....
It’s not just the bank. All automatic payments and deposits have to be changed over such as Social Security, Automatic mortgage payments, automatic car payments, and if you run a business with that account, notifying all your suppliers of new account information, Ebay, Paypal, credit card processors…etc…etc…etc…and half of them can’t get it right the first round… You are left with no money to operate your business, no way to process credit cards, no way to take checks…plain flat put out of business…!!
