Its in the 80s here, hot and dry, so while everyone else is getting pummeled, El Nino is turning into El Nada in SoCal
It was real nice here today, I actually installed two new turnouts and a few feet of track all while sweating. It was 85 degrees. Actually I would have enjoyed a little cooler weather. Hope it gets down to the 70’s and stays there through March.

Hit 91 at my house today. Was 93 just 2 blocks away. We’re always a bit cooler than the surrounding area (sometimes more than 5 degrees difference) due to the canyon influence.
It’s running in the 70s here on the desert and we haven’t seen any snow yet. We can see it on the mountains but that is all.
After the Challenge I’ll be cleaning track.
Hmmm it’s 5’ … a little cold Sat calls for -5’ … colder still!
All the snow we have has turned into a block of ice.
Dad I’m going to need a jacket!
The forecast for tomorrow is -26C, here in Ottawa, Ontario, The Dominion of Canada, but by Tuesday we will see a change to just 0C, and a trend towards milder temperatures. This is the time of the year to be doing maintenance on all our railroad equipment, indoors, so that when Spring arrives, we can go outside and operate the railroad, without frustrations. The pleasure of living where we can experience four great, different seasons, has to be experienced, in order to find pleasures in each different season. You grow to enjoy them all, if you look positively at life.
Fred, I was walking around in downtown Pittsburgh today, dressed like Nanook of the north. I am tired of winter, even though its been a short one. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, I could go vote in the New Hampshire primary. Now I was fibbing a bit, 10 degrees cooler here on the coast, so high today will be 81, perfect. 89 too hot… that’s where Mike Reilly is.
Actually you guys have pretty nice year round weather except a bit too much rain for me.
Greg
I’m in God’s Country, the Eastern part of Washington State. The Cascade Mountains manage to wring the rain out of the clouds, so we live in a semi-arid land.
What Eastern Washington really looks like…

A short course in how most of the Eastern Washington landscape was formed.
When I was a kid we lived a year(7th grade) in Pasco, and a year over at the big trailer park for the workers on the nuke stuff.
From that picture, it sure looks like the land is slowly washing away, but I guess it would take a lifetime to bother anyone that chooses his location carefully…
Love the snow pics. Later RJD

Fred, that land washed away in a couple of days, when the ice dam that held back mile deep Lake Missoula gave way at the end of the last Ice Age. Click on the link I provided for the story, its fascinating.
Temperatures in my part of SW England, situated by the English Channel, have been mostly in the upper 40’s and lower 50’s F all winter. In the last week we have had a couple of cooler and slight frosty overnights which gave us much welcome sunny, warm days.
Despite the reasonable winter temperatures the main issue this winter has been the unusually continuous ‘monsoon’ rains and very strong gales. Most of the UK have had this weather and extremely high winds, recorded over 100 mph. in exposed areas, have been frequent.
In the years my railroad has existed I have always been able to run trains pretty regularly, excepting January when it is often too cold (for me), to be stood around in the back yard. January also seems to coincide with little garden work which helps to keep warm! This winter has been a lean railroading time.
Better days are on the horizon. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
