I thought I was the only one having troubles with rail contractu

At least, mine only comes apart at the joints.

uuuhhh…crick-crack…the winter-problem with welded rails.

Many RR had to make bad experiences beginning to weld all rails instead of using joints and plates.
Especially the light rail-profiles dont like the welding, making edges and dents, becoming curvy and tend to crack.

u need a stable rail for a good welding.

we had the problem on our RR-museum yard.
in the 70s and 80s all was welded together (rails fron 1890!!!) and because the whole track wasnt good for welded joints, all the movement pressed in the turnouts, espcially the frogs. We had most of the track and turnouts repaired or removed.

I’m having my own winter weather problem–last night I was awakened by a loud snap, followed by the sound of ringing strings. Downstairs I go and my bass violin has a long, nasty crack in the rib. Going to require taking the top of the bass off. Going to require that and a LOT of money.
