Over on the 1:20.me blog, they have finally posted some information about the controvery surrounding “outside consultants” with Dave Goodson and Stan Ames being singled out respectively. It seems that while Dave was unceremoniously told (and I’m paraphrasing) “Don’t help us, don’t call us and don’t write reviews about us! If we want your help we’ll call you”, Stan Ames was billing himself as “a Bachmann Consultant” while planting himself firmly in the Bachmann booth during the recent convention!
Tsk tsk tsk…ol’ Durango Dan’s gonna find that he’s pssing off Bachmann again by bringing this back up! Personally, I have decided that Bachmann and Stanley deserve each other! If they actually believe all of the crp that Stanley is feeding them, it should be REALLY interesting to see the next debacle that Bachmann finds itself in! DD says more to come. Well, it should be at least as interesting as some of the summer flicks that are coming out!
As I said before, we may have to start being modlers and build our own and help each other while Stanley and the Bachmann go off the deep end - sans lifevest! If any one needs a “Super Socket” I have one they can have for postage. Unlike the TOC I don’t the number of Locos he does so I don’t have a box full! As Steve said the summer and fall should be very interesting! Paul
Reminds me of the Jim Carey Film…Dumb and Dumber…
Whatever else is done I hope they remember the KISS Principal:…Keep It Simple-Stanley
Incidentally, speaking of summer films… the new Indiana Jones gave a bit part to my alma mater … and VRR #97 will have a bit part!
As to Bachmann … I’ve been reluctant to say anything about “I won’t” simply because it’d be possible to build something like the K-27 that even with all its problems could be fixed, and made into something great (Like my K-Rex, a la TOC!) I really hope the reason for all of the shufflings is NOT to usher in an uncontested incompatibility too large to fix!

As I cannot afford a K, and havent bought a Bachmann engine since my last Porter, really this all mote to me, in terms of my buying habits at least, Bmann seams to going in the direction they want to be in, and if that does not include Dave, then they are weaker for it.
It really will be interesting to see how “in depth” the “official” review of the next release is. I suspect we’ll have to rely on Dave’s “unofficial” on-line review to get the real poop.
Be even more intersting to see whats next to be released, methinks it will have to be something big enough to hold the new “wonder board”.
Vic,
if the SP ‘Little Giant’ comes off then there will be kudos for B’mann, but if no, t then expect simply repaints of previous releases. I get the distinct impression the ‘K’ was not as warmly received as the hype anticipated, as with the 1/20.3 Spectrum rolling stock models. Unlike the B-man, I have given up anticipating any future B’mann releases. They burned their bridges over the ‘K-fiasco’, so I am sticking with my Anniversaries, at least there are no politics involved with that loco.
Hi Tim, yeah a Little Giant might be very tempting…
I feel that its all about how the K got pinched into a intercorporate power struggle thats been the downfall for its reception, all the hype given the SuperCircuit then to be followed up with an LGB-like attack campaign againts anyone asking questions just left a bad taste in everyones mouth, its like, we just went thru this very very nasty LGB debacle about some people getting attacked for daring to question the reasons behind the insolvency, now some at Bachmann have thrown the same kind of tizzy-fit against certain people asking Q’s about their stupid circuit board. I know I lost alot of interest after all that. Anything they reissue will likely be alot more expensive anyway, maybe I’ll just stick with my Mighty Macks, they make for some very satisfying kitbashes.
