I’ve got the chuff pipe in my Shay. Sounds great and reasonable.
You mean that wasn’t a long haired hippie freak pagan star on the front? Shoot.
Chas
Can’t go wrong with a Summerlands Chuffer, sounds great!

David - with that in mind, you might care to remove the 'Chinese' stars from the centres of the drivers on #4449... ;)tac
TAC, All:
I don’t see the stars you mentioned, but looking at the book “Those Daylight 4-8-4’s” by Robert J. Church, I see several pix of the Daylight engines with stars in the center of the drivers.
Some examples:
Page 62: 4444 taken in June, 1947: “. . . fresh from the shops . . .” has stars painted on each driving axle.
Page 64 / 65: 4436: Stars on each driving axle.
Then there is a closeup picture of a single driver on page 17 showing a star. The accompanying text says in part: “Painted star indicated spring pad lubrication. Dots appeared on engine with roller bearings.”
Although there are numerous pix of 4449, only the one where she is in American Freedom Train paint, (full page color photo taken on June 22, 1975) clearly shows the stars on the drivers. Other pix I reviewed are either taken from too much of an angle, or the picture is too dark to clearly see the drivers.
I guess some of the Daylight 4-8-4s had American Stars!

4449 does.
I looked.
In two weeks time, I’ll look again.

David;
I like the cuff pipes. Now you can hear it coming.
How long did it take to get your pipes?
I’m going to order a set.for my Forney.
It took less than a week to get and less than 10 minutes to install. Great service, reasonable price.
