Large Scale Central

I hope they let me steer

My sister likes to keep my spirits up… My bro in law and her have said they got the best smile per buck, on the Cumbres and Toltec. So for my last birthday she suggested we ride the Verde Valley Scenic in Northern Az. I agreed and half joking asked about an invitation into the cab. Going one better, she signed me up this Sunday for the Ride Along.

I’ll be sitting between the Engineer and conductor all day and I can’t take pics unless given permission by the crew. I’m to be part of the crew! Including dressing the part; boots with a definite heel (I’m sure that’s for rung ladders), dark jeans and a coat and they’ll supply the rest… For a ride that starts at 1pm I have to report at 10:30 and pass the safety test (100% required to ride) … help make up the train, take the head count and get them aboard… At the half way stop, I help move the 2 locos to the other end.

A real bus man’s Holiday!

Hey how fast can this old pair of FP7s go???

A fantastic experience for a fantastic guy!

Enjoy every minute John.

I wish I had a sister like that, or brother or wife or son or daughter or friend or…

The ultimate in playing with trains.

Have a great time John!

Adam

Wonder what kind of look they would give you if you pointed to some random round thing and asked, “Hey, is that for the nitrous oxide injector?”

Wheelies?

Good for you and have fun…

Oh:

It is not how fast the engines can go, it is the rating of the track and Federal guide lines that determine the speed of tourist trains.

15 MPH comes to mind as a max speed for most.

Very cool John !

Happy birthday and enjoy!!

Blow the whistle and ring the bell!

The run around at Perkinsville, from my sis in laws birthday party a few years ago. We had a great time and now I am wanting to go back and do the cab ride deal! looks like a fun day for you!!

Thanks everybody, I’m mostly packed… We’re driving up to Sedona for our overnight, sis tried to get us into the Winslow La Posada hotel on the transcon, the last Harvey House Hotel. They were full up. Darn. It’s my sister’s favorite hotel and she likes the rumble of the trains! Great older Sis, eh?

Anybody need a pic of the insides in particular, let me know, I’ll play the foamer for ya! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)About an hour or so for requests.

My truck marked off 2/3 of it’s life the other day (200,000 miles) I wonder what those old dismals have done?

Hey Eric,

I pretty sure F7’s have horns and not whistles, but what do I know. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-kiss.gif)

Reminds me of a story I read about an engineer on the old CRI and P, the Rock was mostly bad ordered 10 mph track. One hogger lamented being able to see the grainery for hours before they stopped there for their daily lunch.

On this old line it’s making the most of not much, this train is all journey, not destination. I hope my crew likes to tell stories…

John

Remember you represent the greater G-scale community to these guys. So if you are going to drive it like AMTRAK for God sake have on clean underwear in case something goes wrong. You could wind up on the ten o’clock news and we don’t want the entire state of Arizona thinking we are all a bunch of whacked out, milk toast eating, gum sucking, Geritol guzzlers that never change their drawers.

Otherwise have a happy birthday!

It’s Saturday; I took my bath and nowadays I always mostly put on clean drawers after that chore. Made sure today!

Thanks!

Happy Birthday John, have fun!

Way to go John, and have a blast!!
