Today I made arrangements to buy a Lionel Large Scale Union Pacific GP-20 dummy. This completes my Lionel collection, I have one representitive piece of every Large Scale item produced. It took 22 years but I did it. I’m pleased as punch…Now what?

I have one of each train set, engine, hand car, freight car, and building kit. Several items were cataloged but never produced (wooden cars, Santa Fe GP’s, Disney Passenger set). I still have managed to pick up the Christmas cars when they are offered, even as late as last year. They had some high quality stuff, and some real junk too!
It’s fun keeping them running, repairing when required, and upgrading on occasion too. Almost all the rolling stock now has metal wheels (modified Bachmann). The 4-4-2’s are still my favorite motive power. None of them are great pullers but as I run indoors my trains rarely exceed 10 or 12 cars. The 4-motor GP’s pull very well.
I would love to share a few pictures…not sure how to do that. I also tore down my layout last weekend to give the kids a theatre/game room and will begin construction outdoors this spring!
edit: I mis-spelled Santa Fe…the shame!
Ahhh,
You were probably the one always beating me out of those building kits on eBay =D
Maybe I have a chance now.
Ralph
Congrats on completing your collection!
Mark Verbrugge said:. . . . List it all on Ebay and start over!
Now what?
That’s just mean…

Richard Smith said:Funny you should say that...I've been thinking of adding a "standard gauge" line to my layout but using "new" MTH and/or Lionel to do it. Some of the ebay prices seem comparable to "G". Don't know if I have the fire in the belly right now as I just tore down my layout to make a playroom/theatre for the kids. My shop is destined to be my new "train room".

Holy crap! I think I need to re-think that whole “standard gauge” thing!!! OMG!!!
But the shipping is free.
Hmm, economic stimulus on the grassroots level?

Holy cow!!! That’s an awful lot of dough for a rather ugly old toy.
This part was interesting: “Shipping information: You can fly in to Phx and pick it up for less than the shipping cost with insurance.”
If you fly there to pick it up, wouldn’t you have to fly back? And if so, wouldn’t that mean trusting it to the tender mercies of checked baggage??
