I E & W RR Spring Narrow Gauge Meet 2014

Last weekend was the NG meet at Jim Stapleton’s. The weather was beautiful, the steamers were steaming, and all was well with the world (until the screw came off my servo arm . . )

Jerry Bohlander had his big DSLR and took this pic of my #7, which epitomizes the weekend:

Scott McD posted his video on MLS, which I will repost here:

My #12 was also running (this is not the loco in Scott’s video - mine is dirty and my hoppers are full of revenue-earning coal) and in the background is Jerry’s party having a civilised lunch, and the steaming bay.

And here’s #12 storming out of town into the boonies:

Hey Pete,

Thanks for sharing. What is it you adjust on the combine? Do you have a break or drag on it?

Drop dead gorgeous - ALL of it.

Only 3750 miles and poverty prevented me from joining you!

Did I say I adjust something? It’s a regular Accu coach with laser-cut EBT #16 sides.

The video shows #7 actually idling at almost 0 deg throttle. I was testing my new DSM2 Deltang transmitter, and it has no amp so the range is restricted. Luckily I didn’t have the servo adjusted to totally close the throttle, so when it was out of range it just drifted with the throttle ‘closed’, with that nice little bark that Scott captured. From the lack of steam, you can tell it isn’t really working hard!

So at 6:33 into the video, you just have your throttle sitting on top of the coach? I guess I see that when I look at it closer.

Heck I thought you built some type of “drag brake”.

Once again, great video!

Ric,

Yes, that was my new ‘Deltang’ r/c TX sitting on top of the coach! Solved the range issue. I then discovered it would fit on the tender frame behind the water tank. By 7:15 you will note the TX is no longer on the combine - and at 7:18 you can just see it on the tender.
