Last night, I handed my wife the controller for the track. I almost had to bop her to get it back while she tried all the buttons to see what it would do. Sometime after that, I apparently agreed to buy her her own cab for the system and her own locomotive. I don’t remember it, but it has to be “cute” and dcc-equipped.
It’s a good sign when she wants her own train.
Will be fun, why not give her one of the more limited throttles, like:
also, be aware that since Marklin bought LGB, they are using their decoders, which default to MFX, and can act strangely on DCC, so I would avoid buying a brand new one.
Also, I’d buy a used one, and then get a $100 HO decoder with sound and running that in the loco. Most HO decoders will run a loco that small… just be sure of the decoder’s voltage capability. I’d recommend a Zimo.

I would be naturally wary if my SWMBO (She Who Must be Obeyed) wanted to have her own cab and loco, I usually ensure that sticks to the “That looks cute” area of the railway development. That kind of request in Aust would be considered the start of a hostile takeover of the railway and would be resisted most severely. Next thing frilly curtains will appear in the buildings and passenger cars windows after that happens its all downhill from there.
All this is very tongue in cheek of course.
Luckily, my wife is not a frilly curtain kind of girl. She deals with building contractors all day, and can race an off-road rally car with the best of them.
