Large Scale Central

I am so ready...

for winter to be over.

The snow had mostly melted off the WI&M, and I had planned to do some ballasting and other track maintenance today, then get in a run this afternoon. The seasonal Feather Creek was trickling nicely with snow melt, and further on, Dragoon Creek is still at flood.

I woke up this morning to find 2 inches of snow on the ground, and it was still snowing. Now, 5 hours later, it has stopped, but the damage is done. There is about 3 inches on the ground, the track is again buried, and I am back in the shop, putzing around, again.

I’m tired of winter. I’m ready to fast forward to bitching about how hot it is.

At least you got snow… A few miles to your east all we keep getting is wind. All the snow blew away leaving a nice thick layer of ice that melts just enough to refreeze every night. Only thing that makes it manageable is that the XC skiing is still decent as long as it stays below 40 during the day.

BTW gonna be near 80 again today

Great picture Vic, that’s probably what my cat was saying this morning when she went outside to do her thing. She sure came running back in the house fast.

I have to agree with Steve, I love the snow but I’m ready for it to be gone. Got another 3" to 4" over night so I’ve plowed the driveway and now it’s starting to warm up and melt.

Hmmmmmm, Stevie… Snow is fun didn’t you get the Memo???

Nicky does Luv…  Crazy bastard he he he…

Eating Heart healthy just to be here to keep the old crew on there toes…

Shorts, flops, tees, windows open…not humid, but Warm!..

Its finally above freezing here. I was just wishing it would get above 10. The last 2 nights, I went out and looked in my pond, to see if I could see any fish. Last night I saw 5, tonight I saw about a dozen, and one of them was the little white one. So I am happy that at least half of my fish have survived. All 23 probably have, they do know how to hide in the pond. As for trains, rehabilitation of the P&CS starts right after the ECLSTS, and the first train has always run before May first. I hope that trend continues.

I started on one end if my layout shoveling 1 foot of snow, got 200 ish feet done, get within 5 feet of the end that goes into my barn, sure enough that 5 last feet was all ice between and over the rails.

Needless to say I didn’t run

Holy Crap the high 40’s for a few days !!!

Haha Steve could be worst. I still have 2 ft of snow outside. I doubt this few day warm up will melt all this ugh… Next week it turns cold with a few snow chances. I found the best way to deal with it is XC skiing. I have been out almost everyday. Cabin fever is setting in. Been lots of problems with people at work. Had a DUI yesterday and the person fought me every step. I was called every name in the book. Would have made Rooster cry. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

awoke this morning to the Weather-Radio screaming at me that there was a Severe Thunderstorm heading my way…with possible Tornadoes… Tornado warning was canceled, but had a nice little Heavy T-storm with a Pink Sky and Pink Lightning. It’s about 60 this morning and we’ve prolly had about an inch fall so far.

Wow

That person must have been pretty mean and hurtful. What were they driving a tricycle?

When the snow is gone I have to put up with the seeds off the maple tree next door.

Darn things get into everything.

We had a few days of 50°+ temps here last week, and I was able to get all but about 20’ of track cleared. That last bit of track is in the corner “where the sun don’t shine,” so it will probably be at least a month before I’m able to get that out from under the ice. Of course, February and March are also known for being fairly heavy snow months for us, so that I was able to get trains running at all this month is something of a small victory.

Later,

K

Those cat photos cracked me up!
The snow is slowly melting here on ol Cape Cod and it is exposing thousands of downed branches and twigs all over the place and worse MUD. Having a Garden Railroad I have to admit playing in the dirt is part of the fun but cold mud no thanks.

I’m in the same boat as Kevin. I really didnt want to say anything but for once we have been in the 40-60 degree range for the last week. It has been a nice break from the -10 weather we have been having.

Unfortunately I have been busy in the workshop trying to get buildings built.

Thanks Jake, I didn’t want to brag, but we hit a cooling trend went way down to 75 two days ago!

BRRRRRR!!!

Update: Snow is gone, but the ground and ballast are frozen solid. Supposed to get down to 10 F tonight.

I think I’ll go to the movies.

Steve if you have accesss to grandkids take’m to see the Lego Movie. Its a great way to kill a couple hours and theres alot of adult jokes peppered thru it, and its visually stunning and just insane to think how long it took to film it in stop motion.
