Many years ago I built an American Flyer Christmas layout. It had a double-track tunnel. I covered the back side of the mountain with crepe paper so I could get inside to clear a derailment. Came home from work and decided to run my five car express passenger train. The train roared into the tunnel and our cat burst out the back side of the mountain! (I think that scared both of us out of one life!) Afterwards I always checked inside the tunnel before I started a train.
So I suppose a fifth answer would be a cat sees a tunnel and thinks “cozy nap time.”
