For you New Yorkers, Nov. 9 is the 37th annual Railroad Exposition at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie. This is the first year the expo will feature a massive G scale layout. The Hudson Valley Large Scale Club has been given the very large stage to set up their layout on which they promise to run their new Big Boy pulling 100 cars. Any large scale hobbyists or those who are thinking about it are invited to stop by. If you have some equipment you haven’t had the ability to run at home, you can try it out on their track. The Expo also features all scales from Z to 1 1/2 and also has many vendors selling everything, including G, for the hobbyist. Admission is only $5 for adults, $ student/senior and $2 under 12. The Civic Center has loads of parking and is walking distance from the Amtrak/Metro North station in Poughkeepsie. For more info, maps, etc, go to www.hvrrs.org.
I’m only an hour away but I have tickets to see Yes that same day 2 hours the other direction at Mohegan Sun, so I can’t make it. Be sure to post this again next year and I’ll try and make it.
If you want to go I will gladly use your tickets to see YES!
Thanks for the offer but I think I’ll pass I haven’t seen them since '72 in Boston. It will never be the same (especially without Jon Anderson) but I think we’ll have a good time in spite of everyone (including the fans) turning into old folks.
Here’s an update on the show. The show committee met last night and were told the G scale group is building such a large display we had to get them permission to get into the Civic Center the day before the show to have time to put it together. The Civic Center is used by many touring shows and concerts and the stage, which runs the entire width of the hall, is sometimes a problem for touring shows because it is too wide for them. So you know that this is likely to be the biggest demonstration of large scale of any show in this part of the state.
