How to weather a mouse

You ought to see the latest “annual” out of Russ Reinberg.

In addition to a 57 Chebbie and an old Camaro, trucks, buildings, tractors, and one chapter on trains…
There are three pages on how to weather your mouse.

IBM in this instance, but should be applicable to most…

“Modeler’s Annual”…

So, if your heart’s desire was to weather your mouse, this is the book for you!

Mine’s already nicely weathered.
Comes from using the mouse at the same time as painting models.
(While waiting for paint to dry between coats)
I can’t be washing my right hand all the time!

Ah, but this one shows how to disassemble, grind from the back (to simulate rustout), and surface rust applications.
Real handy information when painint your $3500 Berlyn…

I thought it was an interesting and useful article. Maybe that weathering technique isn’t suitable for a $3500 brass loco, but it’s still useful for many other things on a model railroad.

True, but odd.
I think I am going to not advertise there anymore.
Getting too far away from RR content.

?

The list of articles is misleading if so… and the pictures…

Last sentence of the first paragraph…“Modeler’s Annual”.
What is on the page is NOT the “Modeler’s Annual”.

Greg,

As noted, the page that you referenced is for the Narrow Gauge Annual that was issued over the last summer. The Modeler’s Annual carries a December 1, 2009 and the Finescale Railroader website is not yet updated to advertise the Modeler’s Annual to which the Curmudgeon refers. I have been subsribing to the Annuals because of the railroad content. I have not yet seen the current Modeler’s Annual, but if there is much non-railroad content, I may not continue to subscribe.

I’m glad I was not hallucinating!

Thanks for the explanation Michael.

Regards, Greg

Well, I guess we divide up into groups approximating Runners, Collectors(including those of us who are going to start building Just Any Time Now), and the Competitors. It’s always been Uncle Russ’ inclination to feature contest models/dioramas, and they all seem to be cutting it finer and finer over there. I know it seems weird that great excitement is stirred by articles like “Window Sills of the Uintah— An Overview” or “Replicating Bird Poop With Flea Vomit-- A Study in Microhusbandry”, but some fine modeling is being done by those guys, and I can’t knock it. I’d guess most everybody here wants to get it out on the track, rather than under glass, with at least a long nod toward prototype fidelity.
Is it a guy on this site who’s motto/tag is something like “Screw rivets! It’s the LOOK I want” ?? I admire that too…

Present and accounted for :D

Excellent, FSW—That’s MOOD!! The hardest thing to acheive, really, and without it, it’s all just a gaggle of toys and models…

I’m a bit confused by the criticism. If Russ does not have any articles about specifically railroad subjects to publish, what do you think he SHOULD publish?

No…he had Outdoor Railroader, morphed to Finesale, then the logging annuals, mining annuals, narrow gauge annuals…this is the modeling annual.

I think it’s 5-7% rr stuff.

I’d have to count the pages to see.

Isn’t life the shits with all the disappointments? Your right Robbie good articles don’t grow on tree’s and it is to bad that Russ has to fill in with those gasoline type machines with steel and rubber tires and all those building and dioramas that any railroad modeler would have any need for. Russ does three Annual a year. In the Spring is the Logging , Mining & Industrial Annual and this year it was 100% railroad related. In the Summer is the Narrow gauge Annual and it was 100% railroad related. and the last is the Winter Modelers’ Annual. well I think Russ is great to let Chuck Doan show his fantastic tractor, Charlie Dameron show his two fantastic cars and to show my two trucks If we had known some one was keeping score Chucks tractor could be made in to a loco the two Chevys into very cool inspection cars and I love old rail trucks, but we all went the other way. that leaves the mouse if only charlie would have done what I had suggested and added wheels, a stack and a pull-string My score would have been a 100% for the three annuals. you can’t win them all.

That, of course, is what we'd expect!
