How to tell if post in progress has timed out?

Occasionally when in the middle of writing a post something comes up causing a delay in completing the post.

Sometimes the completed post goes up with no problems but sometimes everything gets lost.

Short of copying the post as a backup, is there an easy way to tell if the session has timed out?

Thanks,

Jerry

With tongue very firmly in cheek:

On most operating system there’s a “Best before” date in the lower righthand corner of the display. Results may vary on account of that.

Have had the same trouble with milk. Sometimes you just have to throw it out and start over. Look back at Bart giving advice to Shawn.

True but I would hate to lose a lot of work over a long time only to discover that I was unaware of a very simple solution (such as copying posts before posting them).

With a PC and mouse it is really simple to select all and copy but with an iPad it takes more effort.

Thanks,

Jerry

Don’t use an iPad?

There are a few glitches on this site that I have just learned to work around!
I copy every post that I make before I hit the post reply button, been burned too many times by having the posting time out.
Also, I can’t use the quick reply feature on this site, it NEVER works for me, when I hit post reply I get a message that I am no longer connected to the internet! So I always use the Post Reply at the bottom of the page.
Another one that bothers me is that I can’t edit any post that I just made, if I go back into a post that was just posted to edit spelling or what not when I am done and hit post reply I get the I am no longer connected screen again.
I have to exit the site, open a new internet screen, then go edit my post…it’s the only way I have gotten it to work!

Vince - I’m certain that you are experiencing a local problem with your network connection. I have never seen any of those issues accessing LSC from three different fixed locations or a laptop using public WiFi at numerous locations.

Ive seen similar problems on an overloaded wireless network, but not with LSC.

I agree. There are some “glitches” with the new software, but those Vince describes are localized network issues.
I have also not experienced any of these same problems.
Ralph

This is the only website I have those issues with, I post on many pro sound forums with zero issues.
I also get the same messages from my work computer.
I will try to take a screen shot and post it.

I have had similar problems with at least one other site. Perhaps it is my ISP or it may be the software of the sites. I don’t know. My only purpose for the topic was to determine if it was or was not something I have control over (apparently not).

Silly answers may be cute (and at least they have been courteous) but they turn a serious topic into a frivolous one and probably discourage newbies from participating in forums because they may assume that they will be treated frivolously too.

It does not bother me to admit that I do not know something because I know there are some folks who will make a serious attempt to help.

Hi Boomer,

Thank you for your comments. I have been a member of LSC for many years but I left years ago and just recently returned.

Here is what get when I go to edit a posting that I made:

This page can’t be displayed

Fix connection problems

Just happened trying to add to one of my posts. But if I open a new window and sign back on I can edit the post…

Would be interesting to know

a) what kind of equipment

b) what kind of connection

c) which browser

While I grumbled about too many blank lines before the sig and some other flakey behaviours, I certainly don’t have any of the problems that several people mentioned.

OTOH I count my technological blessing each and every day.

I get that message on my 6-month old HP laptop running windows 8 (I have no idea what my browser is, it’s what ever came in the computer I guess). My 10+ year old desktop computer that runs XP gets the same message.
My work computer(s) get the same message also, my old laptop that uses XP Pro and my new laptop that uses Win 7 (again, no idea what browser they use).

So that’s two computers on my home network, and two computers on my work network…same results.
