Large Scale Central

How to setup a reverse loop video.

I finally put together a video from my rebuilt not yet finished mountain route which features a reverse loop. The video is a sort of how to in case anyone has a similar setup and would like to send a train back the other way.

In the video behind the GP38 is a B unit that I lowered the body onto the frame by 1/4 inch. I don’t know why Aristocraft used to make those things so tall and spindly. I painted the B to be part of the Cape Cod Central RR, they don’t actually have a B but I wanted one.

I’m taking a poll: On one side I painted the yellow stripes that all their engine units have and when I was done with that I wasn’t sure about doing the other side. The passenger cars on the CCC RR do not carry the yellow stripes.

Does it look better with or without the stripes? Thanks.

With Stripes

Nice video Todd, The transformer looks good rolling down the line. I vote for stripes too.

Nice.

How come you didn’t show the train reversing again to go back the original direction? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I didn’t think about doing that. My RR is a large loop and the train will pass through a wye before it gets back to the mountain so if it wants to it can change direction there instead.

The reverse loop was put in as an attraction to change things up now and again. I don’t use it all the time but I do like seeing a train go up the mountain again and bypassing the bypass track.

I am leaning toward the stripes on the B unit. Thanks

I like the stripes too! Nice piece of video AND a clear explanation of how the reversing loop works. I used to do the same thing in N-scale, but I nver stopped the train. The loop was big enough that I could reverse the mainline while the engine was in the loop. I don’t think that would work with the TE controlling the main, though. I think I had TWO toggles to do the work, one for the main, one for the reversing section.

Thanks Dick. There are many ways to setup a reverse loop and ideally it would be an automatic feature but I didn’t want the added cost of that.

My RL was a “what if” as I was laying down the track on the rebuilt mountain. The old route had 4’ diameter curves and steep grades and with the rebuild I was able to reduce the grades and squeeze in 5’ diameter curves.

I’m happy with the way it all came out.

Nice video Todd , I vote for the stripes.

Great video Todd love your railway .

The stripes are growing on me so painting them on the other side will be my next project.

Thanks Tod H If you liked this one I have lots more videos on youtube under the name CapeCodTrainTodd. Most of them go beyond the roundy round and they have little stories involved. Do check them out when you have some time to kill.

Tod Not to shabby there!

Glad your having fun!
