Check out how the UP RR gets the job done. Later RJD

Thanks for that RJ. Great video.

Outstanding!!! SP dealt with those Mountains for may years and now UP gets a taste of what it was like. Most interesting.

Seen this once before but fun to watch again. Thanks for the link RJ

Does anyone know the function of the round device seen on the windows of many spreaders, the rotaries and even some of the locos in flanger service?

If your gonna remove it, do it right…

motor for a circular wiper?

I am thinking it served a purpose like a double paned window. Does not ice up as soon as a single pane.

Craig will chime in and give us the scoop.

They spin at high speed, and centrifugal force throws the wetness to the outside of the circle, keeping the window clear for visibility. They were first developed by the Royal Navy during WW II for use in the North Atlantic.

I need that to clear my driveway today in Buffalo!

Great video! Very nice production.
Kevin, no sense. High winds, 0 degree wind chill, driving ban, lake effect blast. You may as well hang it up for now.
…or come visit sunny Lewiston!
(still to cold to do anything.)

Sorry that one is out of my league! I’ll let Steve take the reigns on this one. I will say working plow service was on my bucket list, but it never happened. :frowning:

Oh well, making a working Snow Dozer can be just as fun but with not nearly the same amount of stress…

I saw a video awhile back about a guy that made a snow blower using a small block chevy engine. Sure cleared his drive way quick. Later RJD

R.J., I would hate to have to manhandle that around.
