How to get an engine across mainline tracks....

…with no cross over?

That is really cool. Thanks for sharing Joe.

What? No Ballast?!

I expect they’ve done that numerous times and have it down to a science.

I was thinking the same thing.

Pretty cool.

I don’t think this would work as easily with the two giant Santa Fe steamers they have in the shop area.

Why wouldn’t it work Matt?

That pic was from 2011, and it was clear that it wasn’t their first rodeo even then! I recognized the location before the video fifnished loading! Been there, dozens of times. Best RR Musuem in the States, IMHO.

I’ve been there a couple of times myself. It is very fine.

It reminded me a bit of this.

I assume Matt thinks they are too heavy for the temporary track, might push over the rails where just held together by a few ties and clips. If the track were made beefier with the gauge welded together it could probably be done. Or maybe it’s pushing the dead weight of a huge steamer going up and down that rise. Heck, they just figured out how to get a civil war loco out of the basement of a museum so pretty much anything is possible.

That headline make me see this:
