Large Scale Central

How much stall-torque is needed?

Greetings LS Centrallers,

I joined a while back and am posting for the first time now. I want to put a new motor in a large scale engine I have. I need to know how powerful a motor I need - in terms of stall-torque in oz/in or mnm.

Does anyone know how to calculate this?

Thanks, everyone,

Tommy

Dear Mr Cox - you don’t say whether the loco you have is steam outline or a dismal. The motor characteristics are totally different for each type, as on [generally] has large wheels and one motor, and the other has small[er]wheels and multiple motors - Gearing obviously plays a large part in either set-up.

If you live in the USA cast your eyeball over the Pittman motor line-up, perhaps something there will interest you.

Without a lot more information we are working in the dark here.
