I’m customizing a new brite caboose and want to use the hand rails but there plated with a gold metal like finish that paint won’t stick to. Any ideas how to strip this? Brake fluid won’t touch it. HELP. Thanks, Denny
Easy-Off foaming oven cleaner. Spray it on, let sit for about 10 minutes, scrub with old toothbrush. Removes fake plastic chrome on car models, so I assume the gold is the same stuff.
“Simple Green” in concentrated form will do it too…Learned that the hard way!
Scuff with 400 or 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper, then brush on Krylon Flat or Semi-Gloss black.
I went with the easy-off first because I had some, worked great! Thanks for all the ideas.
