How do you mount Figures to the ground

so they do not get knock over

I drill into their feet/legs, and insert a long metal rod to stick into the ground. 2 - 3" into the ground is usually good enough.

If it is a figure that can be drilled without destroying it I use the same method as mentioned above, on figures that I am afraid will crack or break apart I have had good results using goop and gluing a small brass wood screw to the bottom.(glue the head of the screw to the base of the character).
This way the screw threads help hold the figure in place.
It’s what used to work for me before, I am sure I will be trying it again and a few other ways on my new layout!

FIRST cut the stupid pad off! Trim it around the feet with nippers, then Dremel the bottoms flat. I drill up one leg, jam a 6" piece of brass rod in, and mount them in the earth. Much shorter if on a platform.
I HATE those stupid pads!
I’ve done it with the brittle ones and the not so brittle ones.
Not killed one yet…and the squirrels have yet to figure out how to steal them when pegged to the ground!

I used to just place them standing on their own. But I got fed up with some figures that would always fall over.

I hand drill a 1/16" hole into a foot/leg and then insert a 1/16" brass rod into the hole. I usually add some glue to make sure the rod doesn’t fall out. This solution keeps them nicely in place and also makes it a lot harder for pack rats to steal them.

I don’t use a very long length of brass rod as my soil is rock hard and is usually hard to get anything more than an inch long into the ground. And there always seems to be a rock in the ground right where I want to place a figure.

But I doubt most layouts would have the rocky mountain soil conditions we have. So any length from 2-3" should be fine.

ok thanks

Another way to do it is glue a 16 penney common nail to a foot and after the glue dries use that for support.

Too many of the figures don’t accept being drilled.
