Interesting. The article mentioned emission standard several times. Maybe it’s time to rethink why electrification was abandoned so thoroughly.
Electrification was very inefficient, and was only used in areas where the pollution from other motive methods was banned because of what we now call environmental impact. Now days the electrical system would be condemned because it uses too much of other energy sources to make the electricity. For the most part, only on high speed long distance trains is it tolerated.
