Large Scale Central

How about small scale

First of all I would like to say I love this forum. Secondly I am sure there are some of you that also have a small scale setup indoors.

I would love to see some small scale topics within this forum like N,HO,Z etc what do you all think?

Maybe even a run off of My Large Scale with a My Small Scale .com

A lot of us escaped to Large Scale (s) to flee smaller stuff and the enema-ray.

The enema-ray is stalking us now. We don’t need something to show how bad our eyesight has really become.

That said, I have been rebuilding some Half-Zero stuff in my spare time.
Stuff I’d always wanted.

I have a die-cast Varney F-3, A-B set, spring belt/gear drive.
Two Varney die-cast docksiders.
One Varney “Old Lady” 2-8-0.
One Varney die-cast SW/NW switcher.
Three 1951-1953 die-cast Mantua Version 2 Mikados (gearbox bolted to frame).
One PennLine Mini-Dismal
John A. English Pennsy A-5 switcher.
Mantua “Big Six”.
And a 1957 Athearn Dual-Geared “Geep”, one year only, it seems.
Metal gearboxes and all.

I have a six-foot long 1X4 with old Atlas snap-track pinned down, and that is the extent of the trackage I intend to EVER have in Half-Zero.

I recently picked up an old AHM Mini-train 0-4-0 thats HOn30, HOscale on N track, to complement my few surviving HOn30 peices from way back, add to that some old Shinohara Hon30 turnouts a couple years ago and a long time interest in micro-layouts like on Carl Arendts website, I guess I could also be said to have a “small” interest in them smaller gauges and have been trying to get up the gumption to finally finish my little microlayout I started a while ago but then lost interest in

Jason,
It’s not for me to say.
Bob’s the boss…
But, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Plenty of other small scale fora out there.
TOG

Well, I recently bought Walthers’ HO Empire Builder with an ABA. I only ever saw an ABA in Wenatchee because the terrain from Wenatchee to Spokane was pretty flat, and electrics took over at Wenatchee until I discovered cars and girls. I also have a brass 2-8-0 that I recently had painted to represent GN 1147. I also have a bunch of 3-rail Ogauge stuff that I run in the basement. Aside from that, nothing…

I doubt if the Empire Builder will ever be taken out of the box. Just like having it.

I run Large Scale, 1:20.3 and 1:29 on 45mm track.

Like TOC wrote, many of us are escapees from the smaller scales. For me that included 0-27, N, H0, H0n30, 0, and virtually everything in between over a period of more than 35 years. I still have some H0 equipment that appeals to my personal interests or has some significant personal attachment.

Quite a few do model in the smaller scales along with their LS efforts. While I would not like to see LSC ‘diluted’ with a lot of small scale stuff, we do have a forum for the most popular ‘new’ small scale: 0n30. See http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewforum.php?id=7. I think the action there picks up some during the winter.

And, as John Bouck wrote, there are lots of small scale model RR sites on the internet.

Happy RRing,

Jerry Bowers

Jason,

Welllllll, I’m not the boss, either. Even if some of us dabble in numerous other scales, most of us like the LS and Proto aspect of LSC.

Do not get me wrong LSC is a great forum and I am not suggesting getting away from large scale. My father runs a G scale and I intend to go to G scale when my finances permit it. At the moment I am constructing an N scale set up and belong to some small scale forums but they do not compare to the wonderful people in this forum. I guess I am just wishful thinking and wanted to see how others feel about expanding.

We do have a On30 forum, while posting in the mainstream LS forums might be a no-no, I personally dont see why small scale topics couldnt be discussed in the “off topic” forum, but its Bobs call.

There used to be lots of forums for the different scales grouped under the umbrella of Large Scale…but many ended up just sitting there getting dusty…BTW Bob is an N scaler too…and I got On30 cooking in a spare bedroom…I call it “The Winter Large Scale”…

That is what my 3-rail layout is, a winter project.

Bart… Mine’s bigger’n yers!

Jason,

Among the fora I visit is a German LS forum, there they installed a “Minuscule Railway Corner”. The best part is that it is the same regulars who hang out, which probably is what you’re driving at with your suggestion.

I guess Bob could rename the “On30” to “On30 and as small as your eyes can handle” :D,

Oh yeah, I dabble in Z, N and HO. No On30, yet, but I’ve been considering it. There’s just THE prototype for that running on 750mm gauge.

Ummmm…I guess I’m the strange one. 1:29 is my small, winter scale. I have an indoor layout in my basement. My summer outdoor railroading has turned to 7 1/2" gauge, 1 1/2" scale…:expressionless: I also have in the plans another combo indoor/outdoor layout in 7/8ths scale. (lil bit more than double 1:29)

I dont call my HOn30 stuff “winter-trains”, just “eye-strains”

I hope that does not mean you want those Bachmann headlights back. I used them on my 7/8ths stuff.

I have a mine with HO mine track in the basement under the large scale track. Hasn’t relay run in 11 years, since getting into Large Scale, but for the last month or so, a friend and I are getting it going, again.

Enjoy.

I too have a small collection of H0 stuff, mainly SP&S, CN, CP, ON, AC, BNSF and GN.

Until a few years ago I had a small but impressive collection of rare CN and CP brass, including the VERY rare 1938 Royal Train and twelve cars…

Then our clubhouse got burglarized, and they went with everything else.

Got a goodly bit of 0n30 as well.

But this is not the place to talk about teeny stuff - and I moved into the ‘big’ stuff in 1967, BTW.
