Home built chopper

Well aftertrying to figure out how to cut styrene strips to consistant lengths and searching the internet I came across Micro Marks Chopper. Looked pretty good to me. Then thought I could build that. So I did. Not pretty but works just fine and cost about $3.00 and about 30 minutes to build.

Hey, that’s pretty nifty!

Is that just aluminum angle?

Now you need to add an adjustable stop.

Yes just a 3/4" X 1/16" alum. angle and then printed off a 6" ruler on the computer and taped it to the right of the blade. Used the angle so that I can just clamp a small stop block to the fence at the desired length.

Very cool job, I might do that myself, I have admit when I read the title I thought you ment this:

I’m with Vic, but I thought you meant something like this:

Smart idea though on an economical styrene chopper. I’ve been looking for an idea like that too. Thanks for some inspiration.

Nifty! I have seen similar ones using a utility knife to chop cedar shingles.

That is one butt-ugly motorcycle Vic.

I think that is Nicks bike. Later RJD

yeh but I you've already spied at that old lawnmower engine and pile of lumber sitting in the corner

Lawnmower engine? Here is MY homebuilt chopper.

OK… a big lawnmower engine

I used to think chopper trikes were neat…till I saw VW one attempt an emergency turn manuvere and watched that tiny skinny front wheel go into a sideways flat skid with all that weight behind pushed the whole shabang straight into the curb …Ouch! :open_mouth:

I realy can’t gripe about trikes tho, considering my dream bike is late teens or early 20’s era Harley F head or Indian, the kind with the pedal starter, talk about a death machine!

What is that in the background in the first photo? Looks like it might be the beginnings of a passenger car.
Ron

Ron not a passenger car, thought I’d attempt a Drovers caboose for my 1st try at building rolling stock. Probably turn old a bit rough so can just use as an old logging caboose or something.
Randy

Excellent
Be sure and post photos as you go. Everybody here likes pics.

What is the purpose of the thick styrene (?) bar that is set into the base of the cutter?

Ray, that’s a 6" ruler that I printed out on the computer, then stuck it so the zero mark is under the blade. Reads left to right.
