Home Brewing and Stuff

Time to ask everyone if they do any home brewing. Anyone?

We make lots of wine, mead, soda and some beer. Pretty much in that order.

I’ve got a nice mother of vinegar sitting here all sealed up but I’m afraid to open it because we have so many carboys sitting around aging. I can’t do the vinegar in the garage either because that’s where I store all of the empty wine bottles.

Cheese is one of the next items I’m going to try but I don’t know what I want to make yet.

I do pickled eggs every year after Easter too. Oh man they are sooooo good! I make them so hot they burn going down and again later when they come out.

Jon.

You should post this in the Other Hobbies forum too.

My brother-in -law brews. He cal;ls his place the “Lake Water Brewery” and his slogan is 'Taste the subtle fish essence in every glass". http://www.youcanbrew.com/ He hasn’t brewed in a while but is starting back up. He’s made some real nice stuff, and some not so good. I had two bottles of some that the carbonation got out of hand on explode in my hands when I bumped them. Lucky I didn’t get seriously cut. Had to drink six more to calm down after that

Another quote from his website…

The Buffalo Theory:

A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the lowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

If you could see me right now I’d still be shaking my head from side to side after reading the Buffalo Theory…

Oops, I didn’t think about putting this in the other hobbies section. Can Bob move it for us?

Jon.

We used to brew root beer quite a bit.
Nothing over the counter could compare to it.

Our kids will kill a 5 gallon corny keg of root beer or sarsaparilla in one day if you let them!
