HOLY FRACK!

This afternoon my 2 y/o grandson got out of his car seat (while his mother ran inside for “just a second”) and took my Dodge Dakota for a test drive…INTO THE NEIGHBOR’S PORCH!!!

Luckily no major damage…and no one hurt…scratch on my truck from a cast resin Knick Knack that was sitting on the railing…and its gonna cost me some 2x6 and 2 x4s…prolly the thing that hurts the most is gonna be the lost modeling time repairing the railing…

Yep, sounds like the terrible Twos!

Good thing no one got hurt and the damage isn’t too bad!

Yup, I have two small grandsons who would just love to get into the driver's seat. The key goes with me. This ain't an I-know-it-all; I learned from some horrible events hereabouts over the years.

Hmmmmm…I smell NASCAR in his future

That makes a person glad they aren’t tall enough to reach the gas pedal at that age.

I seem to remember hearing that at some point, as a very small me, I took a metal knob of something in the car and stuffed it into the cigarette lighter. I also remember hearing something about an electrical fire. :open_mouth:

Jack,

I won’t start on that, suffice to say it was a miracle I made it to age 5.   And I wouldn’t want to repeat what my maternal grandfather thought of all of it. Not on a family site.

Glad to hear there were no injuries or serious damage.

There was an incident in Saskatchewan a couple of years ago. A farmer was changing a wheel on his combine when it slipped off the jack and pinned him. His 8 year old son got in the truck and drove to the nearest farm for help. Nobody was home, so he went to the next one. All ended well.

But it might be a bit early to start teaching your 2 year old. I’m glad nobody was hurt.

In New Jersey it is a serious offence to leave your child unattended in a vehicle, even if it is not running & even if it’s in your own driveway.

I won’t get into how I feel about such laws, but in many states the penalties are stiff and consequences reach far beyond a fine.

In many states child protective services can get involved. Even if they don’t take the children from the home they will put your family under a microscope for sure. Here in Washington it’s illegal to even have a child that age in the front seat. I’m not 100% sure but I think all children under the age of 8 must be in an approved child restraint seat and strapped in the back seat only. Infants and very young toddlers must be in a rearward facing seat.

Its an exteded cab pickup…he was strapped into his seat in the back…managed to extricate himself and crawl into the Front! Houdini JR!

They have always said, if you want to get the lid off a tamper proof medicine bottle, give it to a 2 year old…

Or program the clock on your VCR…

hehe

My 2-year-old loved to “driver” the truck. Had to put a stop to that as the first things he would do is release the brake and take it out of gear.

Found myself on a very slightly sloped Wal*Mart parking lot holding the free-wheeling truck by the back door while my gleeful little boys “drivered” the truck. I could easily hold it back, pull it back, but when I let go, it would roll forward…

Nope, porches are infinitely more important than Porsches.
