Large Scale Central

Holy Cow Wotta Price!

Here goes, Doug… My Casey Junior pulled ten four-axle freightcars this afternoon. Eight of these were standard Bachmanns equipped with San Val metal wheels, and two were Aristocraft Ballast cars similarly equipped. My Casey is heavier than it came from stock. It carries an engineer figure weighing 4oz (115gr), and in the boiler a cast lead weight, sufficient to counterbalance the engineer and center the loco’s weight over the drive wheels. I have also added a small weight in the trailing truck of this engine. The overall weight of loco plus driver is 27oz (780gr). The engine looked as if it might have pulled one more, but I figured that was enough, and it looked absurd! See the pic. The yellow reefer just emerging from behind the plywood sheets at the back is the tenth car.

Was that actually made by Accucraft?? I didn't know they ever made any "toy" stuff, even as collectables.
Yep, they were made under license by Accucraft for the Disney store and only sold thru the Disney online store. Hence almost no one in the large scale universe knew they existed. Also they were not cheap. They were like $300 . When they were finally blown out and the word spread thats when most of them got sold. If they had sold them thru a LS retailers they probably would have sold better.

I did get mine on the $99 sale… I might make a small coach to pull to add more pickups.

Or get some Bachmann circus wagons, add flanged wheels and make your own Casey Jr train

That’s very nicely done, Greg… You took off the trailing truck altogether, I see… very sensible! I like the viaduct.

That would make a great hit on the club layout Gref!

I sure wish I had known about it. I would have bought several when they were closed out. One to keep and several to sell later. The Disney train stuff has a pretty good track record of increasing in value. When you can buy it for $100, it's a no-brainer ;) Ralph

John, that’s not my train, wish it was! Quite a nice setup.

I’d be content with just one coach.

SWEET! Although I think TOC just coughed a good size hairball

Curious what participation Accucraft has or does not have in the bidding. Do they want any returned - for the right price?
Production numbers are likely held private – unless…

That explains how I managed...:D

Well the listing in the OP went for $790! Really thinking now just how much a Disneyphile I am…or not.

I just realized if I sold my Casey Jr for that price i could buy a new Bmann C-19!

No don’t get any ideas, for my layout, I’d just be trading one useless locomotive for another :stuck_out_tongue:
