Central PA is in a tornado warning right now.
I’m in my safe room with my old computer, and the scanner on.
Just south of me several barns collapsed and I’m not sure if there is more but a report of a house down.
That is just south of me a few miles.
The bottom dropped out of my barometer. The rain gage says its raining Cats and Dogs.
I’m not kidding that’s what it says. I also am getting a danger tone for tornatic activity.

Do any of you remember the 50’s, lots of people built bomb shelters and stocked them for teh BIG bomb? If I had to live anywhere Tornado country I would have a big one and keep the important stuff in it. In other words I would not life there! Give me a good 6.5 anytime. I can deal with the earth moving but not with everyting getting blosen away! And you stay safe and keep your head down, you and yours as well.

We all choose our poisons. Mine is trying to live with my bride if we are too far away from the kids and grand kids. We have a good basement (storm cellar) and I do keep the important stuff there (trains and tools). Been to the land of shaky world, I guess you must get used to it or something. As I said, choose your poison.
Joplin sure got nailed, but this isn’t New(?) Orleans and FEMA will just come watch people working, burying their dead and put their lives back together.
Our prayers go out to all those family who suffered because of this werd weather. All you mideast and easteners keep safe!!!

The people just south of me suffered damage. We had faired out good,but people north and south of me got really hammered.
We are safe here now.
My weather station was going nuts for a while.
I never saw it read out “RAINING CATS & DOGS before”.
And when it alarmed Tornatic danger we went to the safe room.
My track outside faired out ok. I put my buildings in the shed before the storm so they are OK. I’ll check the roof good tomorrow.

Yikes! Glad you guys made it through ok. Hope there’ll be no more repeats of Joplin and Tuscaloosa.
I saw the news reports on TV from Joplin. Unbelievable. One report was a story of a group that were dining in an IHop. They had enough warning to get into the kitchen and survived the restaurant being all but destroyed. When the storm passed they went outside to escape explosion danger from gas leaks and realized there was no place to go. All of their vehicles were destroyed and neighboring buildings were no better than what they just escaped from. I can’t imagine having to deal with that level of destruction.
I’ll stick to smog and EQs, they dont happen on a daily basis and across several states. This is the worst tornado season I have ever seen, I read that in Joplin several homes had no basements, people had to take refuge in bathtubs and like, thats insane to have no storm shelter if you live anywhere in the midwest, they talk about “tornado alley” seams like this year thats pretty much anywhere is the mid and eastern US.
Just an aside but one of the names in my families history is Joplin, namely after Reverend Harris G. Joplin, the same namesake the town was named after, I only found out about this connection about a year ago, so its rather surreal for me to be seeing this story, just surreal.
