I got lucky in Jamestown today ! I left Stockton at 4am . . . . the dawn was breaking in Oakdale . . . daylight when I arrived in James Town. I started a walk down to the yard throat and then in the train yard as the sun come over the eastern hills. I heard some noise of the round house doors opening . . . and when I got around to the front of the round house found that a crew was working on engine no. 3. I asked if they were getting ready for the 4th ? And was told that they were going to run it today as well. That they’d be pulling it out bout 9 o’clock. I headed into town for some breakfast . . came back and took a nap . . . then headed out into the yard just before they back no. 3 out onto the turntable. All decked out for the 4th of July ! Really NEAT !
I love Jamestown and visited several times. A few years back my family and I experienced the Christmas train. The day was drizzly and I was able to get some pretty cool pics of the area especial the steam from the engine. I’ll bet yesterday was fun as well.
