Hmmmm....I'm bewildered....?

Bush proposes more tax cuts to jump start the economy. How can the US even think of tax cuts when we are already in debt up to our ears and going deeper? How are we going to pay for the mess we are already in??

But I’ll bet politicians from both parties will jump on it in this election year. :frowning:

Cut spending. Get government back to the basics and stop wasting money on non-essential stuff.

Well, its obvious that neither of you are politicians. Your thoughts are thoughtful, non-self-serving and probably very close to being totally correct.

Cut spending…??

:expressionless: :frowning:

For a start, stop funding the Pakistani Presidential retirement fund unless they start jumping thru some f***ing hoops? That would save a nice chunk of change…

Any economist worth his salt knows that tax cuts lead to increases in consumer spending, which leads to inflation, which leads to interest rates rising, which leads to government bailing out those hit by interest rate rises, which leads to government instituting tax cuts to help relieve the increase in interest rates. Of course economists are not politicians and conceivably have some knowledge of how their actions affect the economy. Politicians see tax cuts as immediate vote catchers. Economists see tax cuts as long term detrimental to the economy, irrespective of the impact on a consumer’s vote.

More stupidity from Spokane.

First, they started construction on a new North-South freeway several years back. They are now to the mid point in construction and have admitted that they have no idea how they are going to fund the remainder. One lawmaker wants us to foot a $20 increase in license plates to fund the highway…which is mostly going to be used by out of staters and out of towners. :? Another brilliant politician now says he wants to use that $20 increase in license plates to fund road repair. The problem there is we sucked up and approved a bond last year to fix the roads… How come we need more? Me thimks somebody is trying to give the people of Spokane a snow job.

That was last year, Mr Mumpower. You personally have created n-to-the-power-of-15 potholes since then, rumbling around in that Piecart of yours. And besides, how else are the road repair contractors going to be able to pay the impoverished pols their 10 or whatever per cent? Stop thinking only of your own selfish monetary desires.

Chris, Chris, Chris…My son, you are entirely worn out carrying the trials of the world on your stooped shoulders…

Get your arse over here…the Whisky bottle is open and over 3/4’s full…

So, Vic, you agree that cutting spending is important?

Warren, that North/South Freeway is important to those of us in the frozen North. It will dramatically cut the time necessary for me to get to jb’s and Steve H’s homes for running trains.

That fund that was created to fill potholes has been absorbed into the General Fund, don’t’cha’know. Gotta supply money for the pol’s favorite “keep me in office” fund. So it has to be re-done. Your city fathers have never met a tax they didn’t like!

Alas, good friar, I've been sworn off the Demon Rum again, after indulging a little over Christmas ... it'll make my life seem longer, anyway. As for the trials of the world, I've passed them wholly and entirely to Warren. He can use them to ballast that 7-whatever/fraction" line of his, along with a couple of dead pols.

Chris, the good friar is talking about Whiskey, not rum. Where are your sensibilities, man?

Ahhhh, Steve, my son…NOT Whiskey; that is American or Canadian stuff…I speak of the Whisky, from Scotland, of the Single Malt variety.

Whisky from Scotland is spelled without the “e”

Not trying to be picky; just trying to keep anyone that cares; informed.

From what I see; our fine young chap, Christopher, is in dire need of a short course in how to enjoy fine holy water, without ill effects…!!!

He only lives a few short city bus transfers, from me; so if he wanted help; I am available....!!!

I speak of the Demon in the generic sense. Captain Morgan and Johnny Walker are alike forbidden to come near me, or I near them. Mother's Ruin is less of a danger, since I don't like it anyway :P

(Yes, yes, I know, Fred, you would never indulge in anything so pedestrian as Johnny Walker.)

Some would aver, good friar, that I am quite beyond help ...

Chris; many have suggested, and I often agree; that I’m beyond help too…"

Steve I think theres a difference between spending, where you expect a return of some sort, and throwing money into a bottomless pit... ;)

Kinda sums up my feelings on the mtter…

“It’s not that I dislike government… I just don’t trust government. Which brings us to the Democrats. Democrats love government. They think government and good intentions can solve all the woes of the world. And now that they’re running Congress, they’re going to try to do just that. They’ll promise to ‘fix’ our health care troubles by having the government take over, which will increase our troubles and limit our health care. They’ll ‘fix’ Social Security by raising taxes and growing the program, only to hurt the economy and damage the program. They’ll ‘fix’ the gap between rich and poor by raising taxes on the rich, which will slow the economy and make all of us poorer—especially the poor. The Democrats will unwittingly unleash a legion of federal meter maids who will regulate, monitor and punish—and unwittingly accomplish the opposite of whatever they set out to accomplish.” —Tom Purcell

Yea, me too. Since when does more goverment and more taxes help anybody????????

Of course one could always vote another Republican war monger into the oval office whose advisers think the only way forward is a military solution. Is it a coincidence that it was the current political party in power who financially profitted from post war rebuilding in Iraq with rebuilding contracts and is it a further coincidence that the company awarded the most contracts in post war Iraq had connections with a certain second in charge in the office? The said company has already been investigated by a commission for over charging the government for services rendered in Iraq and ‘voluntarily’ surrendered over $9m in overcharges to possibly take the heat off the company front man.

Republicans have a history of getting involved in military engagements, when in power. It seems the Democrats would rather make love and not war when in the oval office. Years later the smile is still on Bill’s face.
