HLW Flats

this is a pile of Flats

I think I counted 11 of them in all…WST has them for less than $16 each, so I’ve ordered a couple of times to get what you see above. I am interested in building them up to be used with my Porters, American, Up-sized Annie and Climax. You may remember this discussion-Climax Consist: http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=8559 Then You have the most recent activity from Ric: http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=10102 and the Tanker redo: (got one kit on-hand) http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=10173 In addition to above I am thinking of doing: a MOW Caboose like this…well as best as I could do it! Though it’d be pretty narrow. Using the idea from Kevin when he built the little work caboose “1/2” in GR a few years back.

or something like this on the flat to have a “work area” http://www.trains.com/grw/objects/pdf/logging_-_caboose.pdf then there was the GR article about using the HLW Flat to build up a Gondola…may consider that as well! April 2007 I believe I’d like to install the body mount KD “1” couplers on my equip to sim the 3/4 style…thoughts? ramblings? ideas? snide comments? Happy New Year! cale

wow were did you get them???for $16 my railroad could always use more

Get any extra parts sets with your flats? I’m still waiting for mine from WST. A bit of paint and some real logs and they dress up fine -

I like to add some Ozark turnbuckles (large slotted) to the outer rods - http://www.ozarkminiatures.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=51 -Brian :stuck_out_tongue:

I posted this before but here is my hartland flats painted up and body mounted my Bachmann couplers. I have said this many times but Hartland is the best out their. where can you get flats for 14 or so bucks . Same goes for the mini series and the Mack engine for under 50 bucks. I still have a few to add to my wish list. like the HLW rail truck woody with the trailer, the work caboose and a box car.

Whole sale trains. You cant pick color or anything but if you are kitbashing them then it dos not matter. Thats where I get all my HLW stock. Never had any problems.

That’ll keep you busy for awhile. Enjoy!

One of my favorites, became the backbone chassis of my geared loco bashes.

What happened to your truss rods, Shawn?

I forgot to put them on when I took the picture. I had them sitting outside so they can weather. They are on the flats now though. I was wondering when someone would notice. Good eye LOL

Can you measure the deck size (width and length?)

Bob, what are u thinking?

Just wondering how they compare, size-wise, to the rest of my rolling stock. Always looking for new stuff. Looks like they’re a bit narrow to look OK with my stuff.

since we are talking Up-sizing flats…i forgot I had saved this link:
